The
Volume 61 Issue 1 Spring
2009
From Our Director
Dear Patrons,
It is hard to believe that we are beginning our 61st year of
singing beautiful choral music – we hope you were able to participate in many
of the activities of last year’s 60th Anniversary celebrations.
We had a wonderful year of special concerts and receptions, culminating
with our Christmas Concert featuring the music of Irish Composer Mary McAuliffe
– with Mary present at the concert.
Other highlights of the anniversary year included our Spring Concert,
when over 50 former members joined us in presenting some of our signature
pieces. There also was a wonderful trip to Washington, D. C. where we sang in
the first National Memorial Day Concert in the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts – representing our great state of Georgia! As part of our 60th Anniversary
celebration, we also released our first Christmas CD. These will be available this fall from Chorus
members and at the Christmas Concert on Dec. 13th.
Meanwhile, we are hard at work on our spring concerts. In March we performed at the State Convention
of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). We will be performing at Lawrenceville Road
United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 3; and at our Annual Spring Concert on
Sunday, May 17th at First Baptist Church of Decatur.
The May 17th concert will feature great opera choruses,
God’s Trombones (a collection of spirituals with two narrators), and our
traditional salute to our wonderful country. We hope to see you there!
Again, it is because of and for you that we have existed for 61 years.
My grateful appreciation,
Mary Anne Sharp
Director (for 45 years!)

the DCC in our 2009 Spring Concert:
Sunday May
17 at 3:00 PM –
From Our Presidents
Dear Friends
of the Chorus,
Winter
is over and spring is finally here.
Azaleas and dogwoods are blooming, and another Decatur Civic Chorus
concert is coming up on May 17th.
Our Director, Mary Anne Sharp, has planned another wonderful program
that is bursting with variety and excitement.
If you are feeling down about the economy, or for any reason -- this
concert will lift you up. The
spirituals, opera choruses and patriotic tunes will send you home humming.
It
has been a pleasure for us to serve as co-presidents this season. Mary Anne Sharp’s direction and guidance
continues to make our musical journey exciting, and Evelyn Arnn’s
professional-quality piano accompaniment ensures that we always make a joyful
noise. Our mentor and supporter Mary Lee
Sharp is the best! We always love you Ma
Sharp!!
Many people help to make the Decatur Civic
Chorus possible. The most important
group, however, are our patrons. Without
you the chorus could not exist. We know times are tough for everyone, so we
appreciate greatly your continued support.
We look forward to showing you our appreciation with our uplifting music
on May 17th.
Come
visit us on our website: www.decaturcivicchorus.org
Thank
you for being a part of our musical family.
Nora Geer and Pat
Stevens
Co-Presidents, 2008-2009

From Our Patron Committee
Dear
Sponsors & Patrons,
What
a beautiful time of the year! Nature
seems to be offering its best to us in the variety of colors that have burst
forth.
The
members of the Decatur Civic Chorus gather together each Monday evening from
all over the Metro Atlanta area to improve our skills and practice the music
for our concerts so that we too may offer our best to you, our audience. We strive to bring the music alive enabling
you to hear and “see through your mind’s eye” its beauty.
The
DCC is humbled by the continued support of our sponsors and patrons. It is through your generosity that the DCC
has been able to serve the community for over 60 years. Words seem inadequate to express our
heartfelt gratitude.
Included
in this newsletter are the names of those who have supported the DCC. Please consider this letter an invitation to
join our “family.” We look forward to
hearing from you.
Thank
you for your loyalty and contributions,
Nancy Van Wyk, Patron Chairman
