1999 Finalist for the 1999 ABBY Award for Excellence in Cultural Arts
1998 Governor Zell Miller issued A Proclamation recognizing the Chorus for "its exemplary service and contributions" over its 50-year history
1998 Lewis A. Massey, Secretary of State, Georgia, recognized the Chorus for "50 Years of Outstanding Service"
1998 Director Mary Anne Sharp named Outstanding Georgia Citizen
1994,5 Nominated for the 1994 and 1995 prestigious ABBY Awards for Community Service
1991-6 Since its inception in 1991, opened and hosted every DeKalb International Choral Festival
1989 Recipient of the first Community Cultural Arts Award awarded by the DeKalb Council for the Arts
1985 Cited by the Georgia State Senate and House of Representatives for outstanding contributions to the State of Georgia
1982 Winner of the Silver Medal in the Georgia competition of the Great American Choral Festival
1976 Named an official Bicentennial Chorus by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce
1971,7 Commendations from Presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter for gifts of time and talent to local, national and international communities
1967 Cited in the Congressional Record by U.S. Representative Ben Blackburn (DeKalb) for "building bridges of good will to people of other nations"
MAJOR INTERNATIONAL CONCERT TOURS:
1998 Concert tour of Ireland and Scotland which included benefit concerts in Bandon, Dublin, Dalkey, Ayr and Edinburgh to raise over $8,000 for local churches and performances at Trinity College, the American Embassy and for the U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh
1994 Concert tour of Italy with performances in Florence, Rome and Venice where the Chorus sang in St. Mark's Cathedral
1989 Concert tour of Spain with performances in Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Granada and on the Costa del Sol and a special benefit performance for the King of Spain's patron orphanage
1987 Selected to perform with the Mexican National Symphony in the Palace of Fine Arts, Mexico City, Mexico in a concert broadcast on live TV to over 40 million people.
1978 Participated in the International Music Festival in Spittal, Austria with concerts in Germany and Austria
1968, '58 Participated in the Eisteddfod International Music Festival, Llangollen, Wales - in 1968, made concert appearances in Germany and The Netherlands; in 1958, performed at Brussels World's Fair
NATIONAL PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS:
2006 Invited participant, Carnegie Hall, New York City, NY – Performed Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Rutter’s Gloria under the direction of John Rutter.
2000 Invited participant, Missoula International Choral Festival, Missoula, Montana - The only United States choral group east of the Rockies; debuted William McGlaughlin's Walt Whitman's Dream with 800-voice massed choir of singers from around the world
1988 Concert tour of Washington, D.C. with performances in The National Cathedral and the ellipse of the White House
1986 Participated in the Piccolo Spoleto Arts Festival in Charleston, South Carolina to rave reviews
Concert tours of cities throughout Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee
Invitational appearances at Disney World and the Knoxville and New Orleans World's Fairs
GEORGIA COMMUNITY CONCERTS AND BENEFIT PERFORMANCES:
Two annual concerts for over 50 years presented free of charge to the public (Christmas/Spring)
September 2000 - Concert at Madison-Morgan County Cultural Center, Madison, Georgia
Christmas caroling at local (Decatur) retirement homes and hospitals
Concert appearances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, at Stone Mountain Memorial Park, and on radio and television
Performances at the Georgia Governor's Mansion, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, the Piedmont Arts Festival, Rich's Annual Tree Lighting, and Fidelity National Bank's Tree Lighting in Decatur, Georgia
Performed for dedication of Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children, closing ceremony of the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall event, and dedication of the Stone Mountain Memorial Carving
Concert tours of Third Army installations including Ft. Bragg, Ft. Jackson, Ft. Stewart, Ft. McClellan, and Ft. Benning; concerts for Armed Forces Day at Dobbins Air Force Base, Marietta, Georgia
Concerts at Emory University, Agnes Scott College, DeKalb College, Spivey Hall (Clayton State College)
Benefit concerts for the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, Emory Nurses Abroad Program, Child Kind, etc.
